🖤❤️💚 On June19, 1865, enslaved people in Texas finally learned they were free. Although the promise of equality was not fully realized that moment became a powerful step toward a more just future. Juneteenth honors both the truth of our history and the enduring hope that drives progress today.
This year's Juneteenth theme says it powerfully: Juneteenth Brings Balance to America's Celebration of Freedom.
We believe that balance belongs to all of us, and we cannot get there until every Californian has a fair chance to live a long, healthy life. Today, Black Californians face higher rates of maternal mortality, heart disease and diabetes, and greater barriers to quality care. When any part of our community carries that weight, all of us should carry it together.
Health equity is not a destination for some of us. It is a shared commitment by all of us.
This Juneteenth, we celebrate the strength, joy and resilience woven into the fabric of California by Black communities across our state. And we recommit to building a California where the freedom to be healthy truly belongs to everyone.
