Julius Malema — EFF Commander-in-Chief — has been sentenced to FIVE YEARS
direct imprisonment at the East London Regional Court in KuGompo City,
Eastern Cape. Today, Thursday 16 April 2026, Magistrate Twanet Olivier
delivered the ruling after eight years of legal battles.

Here is EVERYTHING you need to know:

⚖️ THE FULL SENTENCE:
Count 1 — Unlawful possession of firearm: 5 years imprisonment
Count 2 — Unlawful possession of ammunition: 2 years
Count 3 — Discharging firearm in built-up area: R20,000 or 6 months
Count 4 — Failure to take precautions: R20,000 or 6 months
Count 5 — Reckless endangerment: R20,000 or 6 months
(Counts 2-5 run concurrently with Count 1)

⚖️ Malema declared UNFIT to possess a firearm
⚖️ Legal team immediately applied for leave to appeal — granted
⚖️ If sentence confirmed: disqualified from Parliament, banned from
public office for 5 years

The magistrate said he was not singled out — that he "did so all by himself."
