The word “organoid” is becoming a ‘must-use’ term in papers and grant applications. Though abstracts may state that “organoids” are being used, closer reading of experimental details may reveal a culture system far outside of Juergen Knoblich’s generally accepted definition. We asked Knoblich to tell us exactly what comes to mind when he hears the word “organoid”. The interview took place during a Round Table series titled “Advances in Organoid Applications”, organized in partnership with Nature Research.
