Looking back at our 2018 Fleet Heroes winners, Fergus Worthy, Senior Transport Consultant at Cenex (The Centre of Excellence for Low Carbon and Fuel Cell Technologies) and Fleet Heroes Awards judge, tells us more about this year's City or Town Hero Award winner: Nottingham City Council.
The City or Town Hero Award celebrates towns and cities undertaking ambitious programmes of measures to reduce carbon and pollutant emissions from road transport, delivering cleaner air for its citizens. Also shortlisted for this category were Leeds City Council and Dundee City Council.
Nottingham’s efforts and achievements in this category won them the award - the council is already seeing levels of nitrogen dioxide fall, as they have been tackling air pollution through an ambitious strategy. Measures include opening two cross-city cycle corridors, expanding electric vehicle charging infrastructure, a bus lane accessible to ultra low emission vehicles, and more.
