the moon is beating on this town
on the silent streets and all around
its crescent's growing larger every time i close my eyes
the burning lamplights on main street
on this deserted tuesday night
are calling for a sign of life to consume their fire
as the girl sits alone on a bench
she's waiting for a ride
or a moment of clarity
or perhaps she is not waiting for anything at all
and she's content to watch the streetlights and the moon... on the concrete
she's been there for as long as i've seen, maybe longer,
maybe she's always been there as a living statue
she commerates a saint who had fallen some years past
and she has drifted from the spotlight
and is nothing more than a shadow of a shadow
and her face, it is carved with a purpose
nobody knows this destiny, not even this girl
who sits alone on her bench under the moon and the streetlights
and stares at something in the distance, motionless
even the wind is asleep at this hour
the clouds are laying low on the horizon upon pillows of more clouds
and the soft orange glow of the sleeping sky casts down on the sleeping earth
and she will rise when the morning sun consumes the fog
and the soft orange glow becomes the fallen saint
hidden by the shadow of a shadow
burnt by the spotlight
invisible
gone

This is my 10th anniversary entry for the weekly songwriting competition at SongFight.org.
Starting in November, 2003 and going for a couple years, I did a SongFight entry every week or two, and wrote a lot of what became my Here Today, Crawford Street and Sunny Side of the Street albums.

Bully dont walk away, and leave me here
The feeling of loneliness is worse than fear
You can cut me down to make you tall
You can throw me up against the wall
But please dont walk away before I fall
Bully dont leave me now, Im on my own
Theres nobody here but you, Im all alone
You can call me names, and take my pride
You can leave me hanging, crucified
But please dont walk away before I die
And I, I dont even know why
I sold my self respect, to buy a lie
Bully, just love me
Bully, just shove me
I wanna feel something true
If no one else will listen, then
It might as well be you
On the road of life Ive walked, without a friend
When the hard times come I break, before I bend
I dont need your love, respect or grace
You can laugh or put me in my place
But please dont walk away without a trace
[Chorus]
I can plainly see the sadness in your eyes
Like a mirror when Im staring into mine
Would you open up and let me in,
Would you let me see beneath your skin
I promise I wont run at what I find
Bully, just love me
Bully, just shove me
Bully, handcuff me
Hover above me
Bully, just touch me
Bully, just clutch me
Gently or, roughly

A sticky summers day in Shepherdstown
An eagle in a thermal is a circlin round
Like a tire on a bike rolling down Columbus Street
Katie got a little look of hope in her eye
Arms unfold as she looked to the sky
and said, Im going to learn to fly around with you
She jumped up high and she fell to the ground
Skinned her little knee and made a horrible sound
She got right up and she tried again
Smiling all the way with her unstoppable grin
Take time, do what youre going to do
Just smile, youre gonna make it through
Your wings are going to spread and lift you off the ground
Take time, do what youre going to do
Just smile, youre gonna make it through
Your wings are going to sprout and you will learn to fly
All the other children used to laugh at her
They say your head is in the clouds and when you come back to earth
That the men in the white coats, they will all be waiting
But Katie knew that there was something they didnt see
She climbed up to the top of the sycamore tree
and said, look out world, Im going to fly away
She stood so tall and with all her might
She took a flying leap of an astonishing height
A wind blew through and it carried her high
and Katie knew that she was just beginning to fly

![Josh Woodward: Go (Acoustic Performance)
I promise you - this is the same song.
Free MP3 and Lyrics:
http://www.joshwoodward.com/song/Go
We lay in the glow of the neon city lights
Eyes on the wall through another sleepless night
I just wanna be, alone again
And Im remembering
I was a wreck when we met at the dollar store
I should have just made a run for the exit door
I was into you, but now Im in too deep
I was over my head but you said that Im safer in your arms
I was over my head so I fled to the comfort of your charms
I guess at the time, you were so idealized
Now in the light of the day I realize
I was into you, but now Im in too deep
And now I think that it is
Sad that I had to get tangled in the wires of your snare
Its sad that we had to evaporate and vanish in the air
I dont care if you go
I dont care if you go
I dont care if you up and walk away and just leave me with a wave in the dark
I dont care if you go
I dont care if you go
And now I see that it never really mattered, its just another chapter to close
I dont care if you go
Do what you want, I am tired, I am sick of this
I never wanted to even admit to this
I was into you, now Im in too deep
And now Im telling you
I may be awake but I never really opened up my eyes
I may be awake but I never really wanted to rise
