In Franklin's show, he dances before chatting with his beloved TV idol on himself. The Joker then proceeds to tell morbid jokes before eventually admitting to murdering the three Wall Street boys at the subway. Despite being understandably shocked, Franklin decided to carry on with the show instead of shutting it down in hopes to improve the ratings through reasoning with the scarred Arthur. But even with his genuine efforts to try to understand his fan's pain and upbringing, it came to light that Arthur had become too insane to reason with and worse, Franklin's humiliation eventually bit him in the end. The two ended up having an argument that led to Arthur shooting Murray in the face. With his transformation as the dreaded Joker complete, Arthur danced over the camera over to give the public a chillingly good night and news of Franklin's death spread across the media.
We watch Arthur rehearsing his appearance on the show. The man certainly has a plan. That plan, based on what we see, is that Arthur expects to blow his brains out on national television. He's going to go out in a blaze of glory, seemingly so that his death will have more impact on the world than his life has to this point.
Arthur arrives at the television studio for his appearance, in full clown face paint, where he's asked to be introduced as Joker. In the dressing room, the idea that Arthur will kill himself is teased once again.
However, after Arthur is introduced on the show, and the moment he had been planning for comes, he ends up choosing not to go through with it. Instead, he confesses on live TV to the murders he had committed earlier in the film, condemns the city and its people for the way it treats its less fortunate. When he finally does pull his gun on the stage, rather than turning it on himself, he shoots Murray Franklin in the head, killing him instantly.
Arthur Fleck (Joker) is an aspiring stand-up comic. He tries to be funny, but he doesn’t succeed. He has mental health issues, part of which involves uncontrollable laughter. Times are tough and, due to his issues and occupation, Arthur has an even worse time than most. Over time these issues bear down on him, shaping his actions, making him ultimately take on the persona he is more known as...Joker.
