At the World Health Summit 2025, this session — co-hosted by the Federal Ministry of Health of Germany (BMG) — centered on noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) and mental health, spotlighting the follow-up to the UN High-Level Meeting. Speakers, such as Katie Dain (CEO, NCD Alliance), Catherine Kyobutungi (Executive Director, The African Population and Health Research Center), Bernd Montag (CEO, Siemens Healthineers), Nina Warken (Federal Minister of Health, Germany), and Guy Fones (Crosscutting Lead, Department of Noncommunicable Diseases and Mental Health, World Health Organization), emphasized the urgency of closing implementation gaps and creating synergies across sectors to accelerate progress in tackling NCDs and mental health.
NCDs - including cardiovascular diseases, cancer, diabetes, and chronic respiratory diseases - remain major health risks and the leading causes of death and disability worldwide. Alongside them, mental health disorders add a significant global health burden, ranking among the top causes of disability and greatly reducing quality of life, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. Many of these deaths are preventable through accessible, integrated health services supported by strong policies and frameworks.
