These restored photographs celebrate Johnny Cash and June Carter—two extraordinary performers whose music, humour and affection continue to touch hearts across the generations.
Johnny, the legendary Man in Black, could make a song feel like a life story. His deep, commanding voice carried sorrow, strength, mischief and compassion. June brought her own remarkable talent: a gifted singer, songwriter and entertainer from the celebrated Carter Family, with sparkling humour and a stage presence entirely her own. She also co-wrote “Ring of Fire,” one of Johnny’s most enduring recordings.
Together, they were electric. From the playful exchanges of “Jackson” to the tenderness of “If I Were a Carpenter,” their chemistry made every duet something special.
June joined Johnny for his historic Folsom Prison performances on 13 January 1968. Just weeks later, he proposed onstage in Canada, and they married on 1 March 1968—beginning a marriage that lasted 35 years.
