Captain John MacLellan, MBE, Queen's Own Highlanders, composed "Edinburgh Castle"
to commemorate his own 18 years association with Edinburgh Castle as the Instructor at
the Army School of Piping and latterly as Director of Army Bagpipe Music. The Castle has
many happy associations with the Seaforth, Camerons, and Queen's Own Highlanders.
The last regular battalion to be quartered there was the 1st Battalion The Queen's Own
Cameron Highlanders, and they marched out in August 1914 to World War 1. (source: "The Cabar Feidh Collection")
