A lot of my strength work for jiu jitsu looks like this.
Crawling forward and backward.
Low ground transitions.
Ape steps in different directions.
These locomotion patterns train contralateral coordination, meaning opposite arm and leg working together. That cross body connection is essential for grappling.
They also build shoulder stability, hip mobility, and full body awareness. You learn to organize your structure while moving close to the ground.
For everyday life, this improves coordination and proprioception. For jiu jitsu, the carryover is direct. Base, pressure, transitions, scrambles.
It is simple work.
But it builds durable strength.
And durability is everything if you want longevity on the mat.
