This shoulder stretch with a jiu-jitsu belt is underrated, especially for people who train.
The shoulder is extremely mobile.
It needs strength, but it also needs access to its full range.
With jiu-jitsu, we spend a lot of time rounded, gripping, and pulling.
Over time, that narrows the arm lines and limits how the shoulder can move.
This stretch helps reopen those lines so the shoulder can support strength more effectively.
Start with about 10 slow repetitions total.
You can do this up to daily.
Begin with a wide grip on the belt.
If you feel open and stable, gradually move your hands closer together.
Keep the arms straight the entire time.
Let the shoulders move, not the spine.
Avoid arching or backbending as you pass through the stretch.
