Hey everyone, here's a cover of the Billy Joel track "It's Still Rock And Roll To Me".
I had drafted this cover out with a programmed drum loop (Roland CR-78 samples in Logic Pro) and I liked how it sounded with the song, so instead of replacing them completely with live drums, I kept the CR-78 kick loop in the final song and layered it with the real kick from the drum kit.
Speaking of real drums, the secret to this drum sound (which isn't really a secret as it's mentioned on Wikipedia for the song) is that the snare drum batter skin is detuned until it's completely loose, so it sounds like a pancake instead of a proper snare drum. I did the same thing to the rack and floor tom as well to make those match the sound of the snare drum.
