Grandchild robots are being made by a German firm for use in assisted living facilities. Emma is a robotic buddy that the seniors in Albershausen, Swabia, Germany, have recently made. For some people, the robot has evolved into something more than a machine—it is now like a genuine grandchild.
The startup Naval Robotics, situated in Munich, is the owner of the 70-centimeter robot; it is designed for use in assisted living facilities. The robot can look someone in the eye and read their emotions from their facial expressions. Several nursing homes are now testing robots from Naval Robotics.
