A family of Japanese serow (Kamoshika) grazing in a hillside in Nakatsugawa, Gifu.
Once hunted almost to extinction, they are now a protected species and are recognised as a Special Natural Monument. As a result there are almost too many and are sometimes culled to reduce the impact on farming land.
They can be found mostly from central to northern Honshu and some areas on Shikoku and Kyushu.
