Japan’s hikikomori are facing a terrifying deadline. More than a million people have withdrawn from society, some for decades, surviving almost entirely because aging parents provide them with food, housing, and financial support. But those parents won’t be there forever.
This video explores Japan’s growing hikikomori crisis and what happens when socially isolated adults suddenly lose the only support system they have ever known.
