The internet is entering a new phase of cyberwarfare. Instead of only defending networks, private U.S. companies could now be authorized to strike back against foreign hackers, scam operations, and cybercrime groups.
This video explores the rise of cyber “privateering” and why giving corporations offensive hacking powers could create consequences far beyond the original targets. Cybercriminals often hide behind hijacked civilian devices, shared cloud infrastructure, and compromised networks, making a clean counterattack almost impossible.
A single mistake could hit hospitals, banks, businesses, or critical infrastructure that had nothing to do with the original attack. Meanwhile, criminal groups have every incentive to retaliate, set traps, and place innocent systems directly in the line of fire.
