Welcome back! Today we’re talking about The Cycle of Fire Trilogy, by Janny Wurts. This is her earlier work, publish in the 80s, and it feels like classic fantasy.
The story takes place in a world of vast oceans, so it’s a ship-faring fantasy, similar to Earthsea. There’s a great war between the demons and the ancient Vaere, with powerful sorcerers wielding great magic. Plus some incredibly deep and flawed characters that shape the story.
Yet the writing is extremely dense and rich. This trilogy feels like reading classic literature, like Tolstoy or Moby Dick. This is advanced literature. So, it’s probably not going to appeal to everyone. But if that’s your thing, you’re in the right place.
