No question, Clyde Stubblefield was "THE" Funky Drummer. This is probably my favorite groove of his. James Brown - Mother Popcorn (pt 1).
I had the good fortune to see him a couple times playing with a friend of mine's band, The B3 Bombers. He had so much control over his ghosting in the left hand. So greasy and funky with just the right touch.
It's easy to hear how Bonzo was certainly influenced by his style.
The kit here is a vintage 60's Gretsch champagne sparkle 20,12,14 with a 4x14 matching snare.
