A fishing tool worth 20 gold once caused one of the funniest controversies in RuneScape history. This is the Lobster Pot, and it’s what players use to catch lobsters. In October of 2020 the game’s developer Jagex randomly decided to rename the item to Lobster Cage. It was meant to make fishing lobsters less confusing for new players. When you hover over a fishing spot where lobsters are caught, the option to catch them says "Cage," not "Pot." and the item itself looks more like a cage than a pot. So they felt the item’s name should match. But the playerbase disagreed. They argued that trees say "Chop down" when you hover over them, but nobody calls axes tree choppers. And Lobster Pot isn't some made up RuneScape term. It's what these traps are actually called in real life. The backlash was so fast that Jagex edited the update post that originally announced the change the same day, admitted they got it wrong, and changed the item's name back the next week.
