Make sure to stay tuned so you can watch how our friend, Mrs. Jennifer Earnest who is the STEM Lab teacher at Sand Hill Elementary School in Carrollton, GA, and her students are creating a 3D printed tail for our Jade, our Argentine Black and White Tegu.
If you’ve seen our previous posts on Instagram and Facebook, you’ve seen how Jade was diagnosed with cancer in her tail and had to have about 1 foot of it removed in February 2021. In April, we gave Scaly Adventures presentations at Sand Hill Elementary and Mrs. Earnest’s students were so moved by Jade’s story that they wanted to do something to help her. Her Kindergarten students asked if they could use their Tinkercad software and the school’s ANYCUBIC 3D printer to create Jade a tail. Isn’t that incredibly cool?!
Mrs. Earnest and her students have been hard at work designing and creating a tail that Jade will be able to wear, and we can’t wait to show this to students everywhere we go! This is STEM in action in such an amazing way!Here’s a video from Cobb County, Georgia's STEMapalooza, where Mrs. Earnest was showing us some of the initial design prototypes. Jade got a custom tail fitting, which was SO adorable to watch, and then Mrs. Earnest took notes so she could go back and make adjustments for her 3D printed tail. We can’t wait to show you the final product! 💚🦎
