Jacob Rees-Mogg just made a prediction about Reform UK’s next leader — and for once I agree with him.
Zia Yusuf is the clear front-runner if anything happens to Nigel Farage. Here’s why the defectors lose and why the party structure almost guarantees it.
In this video I break down the clip of Jacob Rees-Mogg discussing potential successors to Nigel Farage. He correctly identifies that Robert Jenrick (and other Conservative defectors such as Suella Braverman) face a fundamental trust problem inside Reform UK. The party simply does not trust people who left the Tories.
Richard Tice previously led the party and failed to generate serious momentum — which is part of the reason Farage returned. That leaves Zia Yusuf as the strongest internal option. He is media-fluent, strong in interviews, and already occupies a senior public role.
There is one major structural issue: Reform UK does not function like a normal democratic party. Members do not vote on leadership, policy, or candidates in any meaningful way. In practice the organisation operates more like a company, and Nigel Farage will ultimately decide the successor. Any “democratic” process is likely to be cosmetic. Zia Yusuf is not currently an MP, which creates a practical complication similar to the Green Party model, but that is secondary to Farage’s personal choice.
