Assistant Professor, Economics | Ph.D., Massachusetts Institute of Technology
Research expertise: corporate finance, banking, real estate

Jack Liebersohn, economics assistant professor, specializes in research about household finance, corporate finance and housing markets. His recent work looks at how housing booms and busts happen, finding that the location of growing industries – manufacturing and financial services, for example – play a large role.

Liebersohn earned his bachelor’s in economics and mathematics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and then spent three years working as a research assistant between the Federal Reserve Board of Governors in Washington, D.C. and Innovations for Poverty Action in New Delhi, India. He then went back to MIT where he earned a Ph.D. in financial economics from the Sloan School of Management. He spent two years as an assistant professor in finance at The Ohio State University before joining the UCI faculty in fall. He’s looking forward to working within economics department’s well known research environment and with the diverse UCI student body.
