Mad Resolve
Fusion Basics Tutorial 06 - Particle Emitter Node
updated
This tutorial will also work with Davinci Resolve 18.1 upwards.
The video touches on:
✅ Text animation using the follower modifier
✅ Using the character level styling in the Text+ node
✅ Creating a "cheating" object mask wipe 😁
✅ A number of other tips across the whole video
This could be used for show/movie intros and pretty simple to set up. I enjoyed creating this and I hope you have fun watching and re-creating it too.
Thank you for watching and see you on the next one.

A few of my subscribers/viewers requested that I have something/someone walk through the portal, hence this video. Admittedly, the final result may seem a little janky - had some issues with some free tools I used. But the principle of it is what I wanted to share.
Yes, it is a little more complex than the creation of the portal effect itself but it is nonetheless simple to put together, just takes a bit of planning.
On this one, we explore a few concepts in putting this together:
a. Resizing footage to project frame resolution/frame size
b. Basic understanding of cleanplate
c. Wirelessly connecting nodes in fusion
d. Using masks to cut-out an existing mask
e. Planning the use of an effect. (my recommendation is to ensure the footage the object is coming from is stable, that is, on a tripod or stabilized)
f. Rotoscoping
And quite a few other things too.
I tried a few techniques in fusion that failed - magic mask, object removal node, dfference node. I am pretty sure there may be other ways and I am open to suggestions.
I hope you enjoy watching this. Thank you for stopping by and I hope to see you on the next one.

This video started out of a curiosity on how one might create fire that moves practically like fire when there is movement or it is tracked to a video.
I used the particle system and a simple tracker to achieve this. It is deceptively simple to set up, though seems a bit long. I am pretty sure there are better ways round this. I am open to your comments, suggestions on how I might go about making it even more realistic. I imagine a follow up video would result. We can collectively make this work and then I would release the macro out for any and everyone to use.
I enjoyed creating this and I hope you like it too. Thank you for watching and see you on the next one.
PS
I am open to tutorial suggestions.
I am working on initial suggestions shared with me and should get some of those videos out soon.

1. Creating a seamless 3D cube and animating its assembly in the 3D space in Fusion within Davinci Resolve
2. Making a 3D logo from a PNG image or logo and animating it to rotate continuously and seemingly randomly
3. Designing a simple text wipe animation
It is actually a simple but time-consuming set up but the pay off justifies it. I hope you enjoyed following along (I hope you did) as much I did creating it.
Thank you for stopping by and watching this video.

It is a deceptively simple way to achieve a handwritten-like cartoon text reveal. With a few nodes, we can set it up to look the way we want.
We use a few new nodes in Fusion - sText, SOutline and Multimerge. They make the whole process that much easier.
I kinda enjoyed doing this one and I hope you do too.
I am open to video suggestions that you would like to see treated.
Thanks for watching and see you on the next one. Cheers.

On this one, I recreate the sick text effect I created with Krokodove a few videos back.
With Davinci Resolve 19, it has now become possible to do this. And it appears all the more easier.
It was pretty easy and fun creating this one - I just kept finding ways to jazz it up a little more. Had to end the video at a point but still had other ideas to make it look cooler.
As always, thank you for watching and see you on the next one.
Cheers.
William Justice's Video - youtu.be/QxXL5qLgrNs?si=_1Tuo08yMo0JKHPj
Banding usually happens when there are some subtke gradients which could happen when applying actual gradients, 3D comps with lighting or when Glow is applied in one form or the other.
There are a number of ways around it, but I will be talking on how I eventually eliminated banding in my previous comp - though this was after the fact for the tutorial.
I hope it comes in handy in your comps too. Thanks for stopping by and see you on the next one.
The result looks pretty interesting, even if I say it myself.
Though I was kind low energy on this one (did it in the middle of the night), I hope you enjoy this tutorial as much as I did creating it.
See you on the next one.
Much like my previous video, you may need to render in place to be able to effectively use this preset. I'd recommend grass valley as one the options to render in place. It preserves transparency.
If you want me to create this preset from scratch, I could go deeper into it on a subsequent video.
Starting next week, we will be doing a few nifty animations and graphics together on the fusion page.
Can't wait to share it with you.
Thanks for watching and have fun with the link to the preset below.

Yes it is kinda rigid and baked in at the moment but I made it such that it can be driven by any texture you create. The one thing missing though is that it can not be applied to your own motion currently.
I am very open to options for optimising it as well as improving its functionality.
I did not go into too much detail into how I made it though - I just did a brief run-through. If you want a detailed video on this, please let me know.

To address this in the interim, this ia a first in a list of videos that will be exploring how to get some of these Korkodove effects done natively in Davinci Resolve.
On this one, we will be using some interesting shape nodes alongside Extrude 3D to create a cool transition.
I've also included a free transition. Have fun with it.

Went through a bunch of particle nodes, highlighting their a few use-cases. On this one, I touched on:
- pBounce
- pFriction
- pTurbulence
- pFlock
- pDirectional Force
Also created a translucent cup in the 3D system in Fusion. All in all, pretty fun stuff. Enjoyed it and I hope you follow through and enjoy it too.

Just been exploring ways I could use the particle system. There will be one more to come on the next video. It's just a cool feature in Fusion that generates cool effects with little effort. Yeah there is a but of set up but when you see the results, it's worth it.
I should stop rambling - I hope you enjoy this as much as I did.
See you on the next one.
Used image planes, bender node and some transform 3D nodes to get this done.
Cool stuff, if I say so myself 😁. Thanks for watching and see you on the next one.

At the end of this tutorial, it is my hope that we would have been able to collectively do the same animation shown in this tutorial.
Thanks for watching and see you on the next one.

I figured out a simple way to address this by using the bitmap node. I hope this helps someone out there.
Quickie videos will be even shorter subsequently and address minor gripes that I've come across in Davinci Resolve and solutions or workarounds that have worked.
See you on the next one and cheers!
PS - I updated the Bevel tool to version 2 and made it work a lot better than the previous version which seemed a little gimmicky. See download link below.

The tricky part was in finding a 3D model that broke the parts down separately. I've provided download link for the 3D model I used. Credit to Aullwen for the free 3D model.
Turns out it is pretty simple to do this and make it look clean and elegant, almost, if not just like Apple.
I had loads of fun making this - and I hope you enjoy it too. Cheers!

Throughout this tutorial, I'll be using a bunch of different nodes like matte control, bender 3d, renderer 3d, merge, merge 3d, rectangle mask, displace and transform 3d nodes. It might seem like a lot, but trust me, it's totally worth it for the incredible result you'll achieve at the end.
And hey, if you have any questions or need any clarification, don't hesitate to reach out to me. I'm here to help you along every step of the way.

This was originally created wit Krokodove tools but on this one, I decided to do it all within fusion. I believe everything done in here can be achieved within Fusion without recourse to any external plugin or software.
It is pretty straightforward but I couldn't resist adding a little spice on top.
One thing though, you will probably notice the transition is a little different from the intro video. I increased motion blur for the first renderer 3D to 10 and angle to 360 and added an additional Motion trails effect to it. I believe the default values will work just fine.
Hope you leeant one or two things on this one.
As always, I would appreciate your feedback on perhaps effects, transitions or simply motion graphics you wish to see done or explained - I'll jump on it like white on rice 😁.
Thanks for watching. Take care.
