Anyway sooooooo, this is from what you saw behind the UI in that cable-box video. The failed one-series "Blind Date" replacement show "Love on a Saturday Night" during its exhaustive Valentine's Day special. These little VTs before the breaks featuring couples talking about their previous Valentine's Day experiences are the best part of this entire thing, or at least what's there on the tape I found all this from. I don't think its even worth me clipping some things out to highlight them like I do sometimes for odd TV shows with little-to-no nostalgia caches, like...please believe me, "Love on a Saturday Night"'s Valentine's Day special is dire. If ITV's worst habits nowadays are barely-hidden subtext, this show's just...text. And then some.

They have a weird VT with Sam from Sam & Mark dating a "regular woman", who I *think* had won a contest on the show on the episode before this one to "Date a Celebrity"; they have another VT where Davina McCall goes to a pub with a "regular guy" to play Matchmaker for him, they proudly feature a female member of the public going through a "professional makeover" as if she didn't look good before the transformation and, the main meat and potatoes of the thing, a truly bizarre and genuinely creepy spin on the "Blind Date" formula where some Bro gets to choose between 3 women who have plastic masks on their faces through a variety of factors to suggest the differences between them that are worth the guy to consider before choosing them to *leave* so the person wittled out of the group would then get to have a date with him (at one point, they had blown-up pictures of each of the women's childhood selves as deciding factors, I crap you not). Oh and because it's ITV and because they can get away with it as much as they could, especially then, it had a phone line for the public to call that charged money. Because that was what "Blind Date" was missing. It's the combination of ITV's worst habits that they've hemedically sealed themselves to for the last 2 decades with...for lack of a better phrase, a real "dog's dinner" approach to gender politics all for the sake of enforcing the status quo aspiration of "you have to be straight so you can marry the opposite sex, have their kids and have a pet" so you'd be part of the most profitable demographic of human being capitalism would want. Not helping is the adverts adding extra credence to the end-goal being having children to fufill the status quo...and the cherry on top? Sponser segments themed around love, sponsered by the chocolate bar brand Mars, casually using words like "OFFICE TOTTY". This isn't the only piece of cursed content these videos from this tape will have but my god, my intregue at what the heck I uncovered really flushed down the longer and more I absorbed this stuff. Thank goodness it lasted one series. Pity ITV are so stuck in their ways that this'd be the exact thing they'd still be making if they could get away with it. ITV blows, people deserve better. "Thanks for coming to my Ted talk". @.@
