Yep! Finally re-digitized the mythic tape we had in the house that features the oldest TV recordings we have from a tape that was contemporarily handled with. And thanks to research of my own and some commenters (surprisngly recently!) on the original uploads of stuff from that tape, I roughly know the dates for everything on the tape...and yes, it's as coveted to me as I thought: literally everything on the tape is older than me. I'm younger than this tape.
But I blather, I will share more stuff from the tape soon but first, here we have the ad breaks (and a teensy bit more) from the unrecorded-over parts of a broadcast of "The Blues Brothers" that remained on the tape, which was used to tape a 1991 Thames broadcast of "The Goonies"...aaaaand was used as far as I can tell to record a night of Sky Channel in 1989, but I'll talk more about that on another upload coming up, obviously. ;)
Decided to add a portion of the beginning-end-credits sequence of "The Blues Brothers" here too because what struck me with seeing this compared to the end credits section that was shown on the 1991 broadcast of "The Goonies" is how clearly low-tech their way of handling a credits zoom-out was. By 1991, the transition is fairly smooth but in 1989 (I assume from a telecine transfer of the film that was made for much earlier in the 80's), you can virtually hear the creaks of whatever dials were turned to zoom things out. It was clear whoever was in-charge was unsure when to do it and in what kind of speed too so...figured it'd be of some worth to include it here, if Universal don't frown at me for it!
More uploads from this tape are incoming, obviously. :D Oh and, uh...if you were trying to watch this earlier and saw it disappear before your very eyes, that's because I realised there was a slight sync error that I needed to fix so there we go. o.o
