While at the depot volunteering on another winter day, I escaped to the old Milwaukee Road railroad car, displayed on the ole, tracks of the Illinois Central. I grabbed my guitar I had stashed away and began to play. This song just drifted down like a snowflake hitting my nose and there it was. The music and lyrics came instantly, and I remembered it in that moment and then turned the video record on my iPhone.
A little history behind the location of Mendota, it is where Abe Lincoln came through several times and slept here on Aug 26th, 1858, Stephen Douglas, General Ulyssess Grant, Chief Shabonna, William McKInley and many other famous folks. It's a very historic place. Check out the new rail camera on You Tube by Steel Highways and watch trains pass through.
Anyway I hope you like my little song.
