I had big plans to convert my garage into the ultimate workshop for Mark Fixes Stuff. After months of planning, I hit a roadblock: the garage conversion would require expensive and time‑consuming planning permission. Instead of giving up, I found a better solution. Working with Seth (@theryehandyman), I designed and built a purpose‑built workshop in my garden that fits within the UK’s permitted‑development rules (single storey and under 2.5 m high). This new workshop means no extra planning headaches and a space custom‑built for making, filming and sharing content with you.
In this video we walk through the build from bare soil to a watertight structure using photos and commentary. There’s still a lot to do - electrics, insulation, flooring, workbenches and furnishings.
