It Really Happened: The Ocean Stopped Before Him — The Historical Evidence
On January 31, 1906, a magnitude 8.8 earthquake off the coast between Ecuador and Colombia unleashed a tsunami that was about to wipe the island of Tumaco off the map. As the wave surged toward the shore, one priest — Father Gerardo Larrondo — did not flee: he walked toward the sea holding the Great Host in his hands. What happened in that instant has gone down in history as the Eucharistic Miracle of Tumaco, the only one recognized in Colombia and still documented today by archives, chronicles, and sworn testimonies.
In this video we reconstruct the whole event: the natural disaster recorded by seismographs around the world, the act of faith of Father Larrondo and his vicar Father Julián Moreno, the moment the wave stopped before the monstrance, and the historical evidence that makes this event so extraordinary. Including a detail that ties 1906 to our own days: Saint Carlo Acutis, the first millennial saint, studied this case and included it in his renowned international exhibition on Eucharistic miracles, bringing it to the attention of the whole world.
A true story about the Real Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist — and about what it truly means to believe that, in the Tabernacle of every church, is the One who created the sea.
