Tomorrow marks Hayley’s eighth birthday. To honour this occasion, we release this video that we had been working on over the past few months. When we first started this project, we were considering which song we should do for her, and a question came to mind: what does Hayley mean to us? And I think the song today gives you the very answer: she means beautiful.
Hayley’s time with us was painfully short, yet the bond we shared with her is something very special, truly beautiful. Hayley often considered herself a lucky girl however difficult her final days on earth were, but in truth, we are truly the lucky ones to have known Hayley. The words in this song perfectly capture who she was: ‘wonderful’, ‘powerful’, ‘confident’, ‘magical’, ‘true’ and so much more. And, of course, there wouldn’t have been Hayley without her wonderful mum Sarah. I have no doubt Hayley was to her ‘something precious you don’t simply give away’.
Hayley and Sarah were two of the kindest, most loving people I’ve ever known. It’s bittersweet now to look back at the messages we exchanged. Even in the hardest of times, they radiated so much love and kindness. Perhaps they both didn’t realise how much I’ve learnt from them and how deeply I’ve been inspired by them. I miss them both, dearly.
Still, I refuse to let our memories of them be defined by the heartbreaks. Our paths crossed because of something we mutually love. I see this bond between us as something truly beautiful, something always ours to keep. This video is our tribute to them, made with our heart and soul – and tears.
Hayley and Sarah, this song is for you. We’ve chosen ‘It Means Beautiful’ (from Everybody’s Talking About Jamie) because that’s exactly what you mean to us, now and always. And tomorrow, on your eighth birthday, Hayley, we will be thinking of you, holding you close in our hearts. We hope you have a beautiful time with your mum.
