A delayed flight, two missed connections, an unexpected overnight stay and a journey that just kept getting worse... here's how I finally made it back to Siem Reap, Cambodia.
After saying goodbye to the UK, I thought I was heading straight back to Siem Reap, Cambodia...
I couldn't have been more wrong.
My journey started with a 2:15am taxi from Southampton to Gatwick after staying awake all night. Then disaster struck. My flight was delayed by over three hours, causing me to miss my connection in Istanbul by just five minutes.
What followed was a travel nightmare...
• Hours stranded at Istanbul Airport
• Only one food voucher for the entire delay
• Another missed connection in Kuala Lumpur
• An unexpected overnight stay in Kuala Lumpur
• Booking a last-minute flight to Cambodia
• Finally arriving back in Siem Reap after one of the longest journeys I've ever had
Along the way I stayed at POD's Backpackers Hostel, grabbed dinner at Sami Restaurant, breakfast at Money Corner Restaurant, squeezed in a quick visit to Uniqlo before heading back to Kuala Lumpur Airport, and finally caught my flight to Siem Reap.
Sometimes travel doesn't go to plan... and this journey proves it!
