The Israel, Palestine and International Law symposium was held in Winnipeg September 7-9, 2018 to explore the rights and responsibilities under international law of Palestine, Israel and Canada in the ongoing occupation of Palestinian territory.
In this clip, we hear from Suha Jarrar and Jonathan Kuttab.
Suha Jarrar is a Palestinian human rights researcher and advocate, and currently the Environmental and Gender Policy Researcher at Al-Haq human rights organization in Ramallah, Palestine. Suha obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in environmental and gender studies from Trent University in Canada, and her Master of Science in Climate Change Science and Policy from the University of Sussex. Suha’s M.Sc. research focused on climate change adaptation in the Occupied Palestinian Territories.
Jonathan Kuttab is a human rights lawyer in Israel and Palestine. Jonathan received his Doctor of Jurisprudence (J.D.) at Virginia Law School. In 1979, he co-founded co-founded Al-Haq, the first human right international law organization in Palestine, and later the Mandela Institute for Political Prisoners. Jonathan also is co-founder of the Palestinian Center for Study of Non-Violence, now Non-Violence International. Jonathan was a member of the legal team that negotiated the Cairo Agreement in 1994 in regard to the Gaza Strip and Jericho, for the Oslo II Accord.
