Valheim is one of the most popular Viking games in recent years, combining survival gameplay with Norse mythology and Viking-inspired visuals.

Valheim is a Viking-themed survival game inspired by Norse mythology, sagas, and popular ideas about the Viking Age. In this video, I take a closer look at how much of Valheim is actually based on historical Viking culture, and where the game leans more into myth, fantasy, and modern interpretations.

I go through elements such as architecture, religion, symbols, weapons, landscapes, and daily life, comparing what we see in the game with what we know from archaeology, written sources, and Norse literature. The goal is not to criticise the game, but to separate historical reality from creative design choices.

If you want to learn more about Viking society and early Icelandic settlement, this saga is a solid introduction. Purchasing through the link helps support the channel.
