This looks like a normal portable monitor, but switch the backlight off and it uses the natural light around it instead. The Eazeye Radiant Monitor 2 is a 15.6-inch, 60Hz colour TLCD touchscreen, designed to work indoors and outside without relying entirely on light coming through the display.

In this first look, I test the one-cable USB-C setup, HDMI, touch input and backlight-off performance. I also compare it with the HANNspree Hybri, discuss what “paper-like” should actually mean, and ask whether TLCD can give us the speed and colour of LCD with some of the comfort and low-power benefits of E Ink.
The original Radiant had some clear limitations. This already looks like a significant improvement, although careful positioning, reflections and a certain amount of faff are still part of the experience. Outdoor testing and fuller comparisons are coming next.
