Art @ Bookshelf Odyssey | Is This the Greatest Ray Bradbury Story? | My reflections on "The Lake" from Dark Carnival @ArtBookshelfOdyssey | Uploaded July 2024 | Updated October 2024, 14 hours ago.
Today I share another episode from the off and on series I'm doing discussing some of the greatest short stories Ray Bradbury has written. Specifically I'm looking at the stories found in his first collection, Dark Carnival.
Today's story is a melancholy one. The story focuses on a young man named Harold and his recollection of a traumatic experience from his childhood about his friend Tally. In the video I discuss the plot (with spoilers, so make sure you read the story if that's a concern!), talk about my thoughts on it, and share some other writing that discusses the story.
This is a definitive story by Ray Bradbury, and it's hard to believe he was only 22 years old when he wrote it. If you've read the story, comment below and we can continue to conversation there!
Time Stamps
00:00 Dark Carnival - introducing the collection
03:33 The Lake - spoiler discussion
10:40 Quotes from essays about the lake - is it the best?
15:22 Thoughts on Writing
15:55 What’s Next in the Bradbury Short Story Club
