We test new, clear mason jars, vintage clear mason jars as well as new blue mason jars.
Following this video, Ball reached out to us to let us know that the lead and cadmium that show up on the XRF test is trapped inside the glass of the blue jars and is not a coating on the inside or outside that will rub, chip or flake off.
For reference, 90 PPM is the limit for lead allowed in goods intended for children. Lead below 90 PPM and cadmium below 40 PPM are levels considered safe by all standards.
