There are really only two different ways to interpret the book of Revelation. Either the events described have not occurred yet, or Revelation is simply a book of symbolism. If you view the world from a logical, scientific outlook, then it is entirely possible that the events of Revelation could be happening in the not too distant future. If you cannot handle this reality, then you must explain away the literal meaning of Revelation, so that you can pretend that the future looks "good".
