This storyline mirrors the psychological weight, emotional devastation, and narrative stakes of Jean Grey’s corruption into the Dark Phoenix in the X-Men mythos.
Both arcs feature a beloved, core heroic leader who falls from grace, becomes a weapon of absolute destruction against their own family and allies, and leaves the main protagonist—Sonic and Cyclops—completely shattered while desperately fighting to bring them back.

Due to the infamous behind-the-scenes Ken Penders lawsuit, the Archie Sonic universe was forced into a massive continuity reboot before the storyline could properly finish.
