In 2020, I turned 39.
I promised myself that I would get into the best shape I could before I hit 40. It was a way for me to embrace getting older because if I could be in the best shape of my life at 40, then getting older wasn’t so bad.
But then the pandemic had other plans. And so did the universe.
I lost my dad and as one can imagine, getting in my best shape was the lowest of priorities. Instead, I spiraled. I gained a lot of weight and hit rock bottom.
After a year of going through the motions of this new weird life I was living, I decided it was time to move forward, not on. I devoted a year to healing and understanding grief. I found peace by surrounding myself with nature. I walked, hiked, biked, swam. I listened to podcasts on grief, life, happiness, and everything in between.
During my time in nature, I had my inner monologues that eventually led me to start a YouTube Vlog.
It’s now 2024. I turned 43 in April and the thought of being in the best shape of my life resurfaced. I had planned to start shooting the video in June but as fate would have it, failed each time.
But June 18th comes along and for some reason, I’m ready to start my journey. It was also my dad’s birthday.
This series is dedicated to the promise I made when I was 39.
While I know one day (if I’m lucky enough), age will eventually take its natural course. But until then, I’m doing right by my promise.. not just for myself, but for my dad too.
