I recently watched a popular atheist YouTube channel where the host claimed that ‘we don’t choose what we believe’. On the same day, I saw a meme in a group for seekers, where a former Lutheran pastor wrote, ‘your obedience will never make you righteous before God’. The atheist insisted that people just believe whatever religion is dominant in their culture, and that there is not enough evidence for him to believe.
The former pastor argued that faith is a gift from God…if that is correct, then every time Jesus rebuked people for not having enough faith to be saved, He was rebuking the Father or Himself for not giving them enough faith to be saved.
The atheist was using an argument to excuse himself from seeking and the former pastor was fundamentally confirming that excuse.
