I only meant to dabble in Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition. My goal was to create a character, get my spectral steed, and gallivant for a while, exploring and observing how the game ran on Nintendo Switch 2.
It’s no secret that the Tarnished Edition had a troubled showing in 2025. My fears were largely put to rest when I played the latest version at the 2026 Game Developers Conference (GDC), but still—until release, you never know how these things will go.
So, yes, I intended to dabble. Of course, one does not “dabble” in Elden Ring. One new character and 17-and-a-half hours later, I can assure you that the Tarnished Edition for Switch 2 looks, plays, and runs almost as well as it does on any other platform.
