After getting to check out the multiplayer modes in Gears of War: E-Day, I was invited to check out the game’s campaign. A prequel to the original Gears of War, E-Day centers on the eponymous day that the Locust rose to the surface and wreaked havoc on humanity. The story feels gripping and intense, and I can’t wait to play more.
For my preview, I played through a section of Act 2. Playing as a young Marcus Fenix, I was tasked with defending the city of Kalona against the Locust army. I left City Hall with a group of soldiers and made our way to a bridge, fighting swarms of Locusts as we trudged across.
It immediately captured the feeling of the original Gears trilogy for me. Not just because I was playing as a young and spry Marcus Fenix again, but because of the scrappy nature of my plucky group. Despite it being a prequel, I was unfamiliar with several of the faces I saw, which made me curious about where their arcs could go and how their individual stories will play out.
