I saw a question recently, asking if Black American Speech was becoming a tonal language. If it was becoming tonal, Black English could be a radically different language. A lot of the answers were dismissive, but the person who asked was noticing real linguistic phenomena, and it's time to steelman the question of whether Black American Speech is becoming a tonal language.
