One critique of Marshall Rosenberg's Nonviolent Communication framework that I sometimes I hear is that asking for your needs to be met can be manipulative. This comes from a misunderstanding of what a need is. In this video, Brian G. Murphy explains the difference between a need and a tactic in nonviolent communication and how you can use BOTH for effective communication in your relationship.
