Back to the Desert Ambient (micro) genre, with Irulan on Arrakis mediating and becoming at peace with her new life and position in Paul's new court.
I'm trying something new in my Generative Ambient series by releasing two versions: this full length version (Meditation Edit), and along side it a shorter version (Radio Edit).
This is part of my Frank Herbert's Dune inspired series of ambient music.
Process notes:
For this video, I built on my Blender skills - slicing the desert into field of view slices in 3D to create a real sense of distance. I created the dust caught on the breeze, and animated the wind and turbulence.
I made the track in Ableton Live, making heavy use of instruments from Arturia, Native Instruments, and Eventide's ambient reverb Blackhole.
The generative element started with a core note progression that passed through a couple of home-made generative devices to drive several channels. I added in a Max4Live device to generate a Euclidean polymeter which then passed through a random gate on several channels to create periodic sounds.
I am pleased with the end result, and this time I added a secondary sequence that the generators switched between, where the pace changes slightly, though that ended up not being so noticeably different. I will continue to develop the generative template into more sophisticated ways - if you have suggestions, let me know.
