New for 2013 is Iron Rattler. Iron Rattler is a steel tracked/wooden structured hybrid roller coaster currently under construction at Six Flags Fiesta Texas. The roller coaster is being built by Rocky Mountain Construction of Hayden, Idaho.
Iron Rattler is a redesign and rebuild of the existing Rattler wooden coaster originally designed by John Pierce and further re-designed and rebuilt in-house by Six Flags Fiesta Texas.
Iron Rattler will feature a 171 foot tall, 81 degree drop off the park's quarry wall, will take riders thru various overbanked turns a tunnel thru the park's limeston quarry wall, and a barrel roll, a first for a hybrid coaster of it's kind. The trains will be rattlesnake themed, and will feature lapbars only, a once rare treat on roller coasters with inversions.
Prior to the Rattler to Iron Rattler conversion, the Rattler had a 179' 7" lift hill dropping into a 124' drop at 61.4 degrees and achieving a speed of 65 mph. The track length at the time was 5080'.
The Rattler was first built with a 166' drop. Over the following years the drop was reprofiled several times resulting in a 124' drop. The Rattler to Iron Rattler rebuild brought the drop back up to 171'.
