Come along with us as we climb the infamous (and reportedly haunted) 1,000 Steps at Greenwood Memorial Cemetery in Spokane, Washington and investigate a spooky crypt at the top (never used as a grave, now used as a groundskeeping shed).
THE STORY OF THE 1,000 STEPS AND IT'S STAIRTOP CRYPT
The story goes like this...there was once a rich merchant who lived in Spokane, Washington. In the 1920's, he decided to build an elaborate crypt to be buried in and private steps to reach it. He had it built, but he lost his fortune and was not able to afford to be buried in it. His ghost was so angry that it haunts the crypt and the stairs to this day. After his death, Satanic rituals were performed there, adding to the menace of the place.

According to urban legends (some officially doccumented, some not so much), the satanic rituals that occurred at the 1,000 Steps are rather gruesome. Cats were found at the top of the steps, near the crypt, decapitated, with the blood spilled on the ground, almost drained completely out of the animal. The last, most recent ritual involved a missing girl (in her early 20's) found in the same location as the cats, also decapitated, with her blood spilled all over the crypt wall (where the grafitti is in this video) and a pentagram, which also appeared on the crypt wall. The case was never solved, and none of the satanists were ever found.
While the rituals have ceased and evidence of the Steps' grizzly past washed away, one small, lone pentagram calls the crypt wall home. While this is not the same pentagram as the one used in the rituals, it proves that the location is still well known, both in the world of the living, and the dead. And what of the cats? Upon climbing the stairs, we all noticed that in the snow, while there was no evidence of any recent human activity (no footprints anywhere on, near or around the 1,000 Steps and the hilltop crypt, there was quite a number of cat pawprints. Why this location is favored by cats so much is unknown to us, but we have our hunches.
