When I was a kid
After my romance with KISS
I discovered Ozzy
His first solo album Blizzard Of Oz
Came out when I was 10
And the images that followed on his album covers
Of this deranged lunatic
Both scared and compelled me
They were launch pads for young imaginations to go wild
But the music contained within was raw and exciting
Filled with guitar playing that was next level and revolutionary
And the tunes and Ozzy’s voice
Were the driving force
And remained that way throughout his epic career
I quickly learned about Black Sabbath when he became a new favorite and back tracked to discover a wealth of music that was unparalleled
And invented the style called Heavy Metal
Funny to later discover that his main inspiration was the Beatles
Which was at first glance confusing
But upon reflection made sense when you took in the high level of his song craft
He trail-blazed the path of playing with evil imagery to promote unhinged danger
As a compelling force you couldn’t take your eyes off of
And though it would disturb the religious
And attract the rebellious youth
We also grew to learn
That this was a man motivated primarily by the love of music and family.
It’s funny how universally beloved Ozzy really was when we consider the early imagery
And the unsurpassed reputation of unhinged and wild behavior
I suppose we are attracted to contradictions
But I think it’s more than that
Here was a man who played out the battle of good and evil on the canvas of his persona for the world to see
And in the end with Ozzy
It seems that love has won the day
Plenty of press emerged about his belief in God before he died
Which really wasn’t surprising to me
And his massive farewell concert that made more money for charity than any concert before
He certainly said goodbye with style
And that battle for his soul
The same one we all face
Seems to have gone his way
In death and by all appearance
He’s flying high again
Home with mama.
My heartfelt condolences go out to his family.
Sung here with Vallee in Noirmoutiers, France
The lyrics use many of his song titles for lyrics
Iron Man Made Of Glass
He rocked on
a crazy train
As ants built structures
on his brain
Pigeon heads
and barking moons
Made
Mr. Crowley
paranoid
But now he’s gone too soon
Iron man
made of glass
A legend no one
can surpass
Going through changes
The sabbath black
White lines trying
to take him back
A voice of yearning
made of wind
Snow blind songs
that took us in
No more tears
The sweet leaf smokes
As demons play
With his Holy Ghost
Iron man
made of glass
A legend no one
can surpass
Going through changes
The sabbath black
But you’ll be
Flying high again
Take him home
Where mama been
Fairies wear boots
And phantom skin
See you on
the other side
Under the graveyard
I close my eyes (forever)
The world is different
Now that you’re gone
Cause no one but you
Could sing your song
Iron man
made of glass
A legend no one
can surpass
Going through changes
The sabbath black
White lines trying
to take him back
Iron man
made of glass
A legend no one
can surpass
Going through changes
The sabbath black
