Cinders is a song about an important relationship coming to a close and the idea of someone looking for something they aren’t getting and the heartbreak of it.
The singer or the protagonist recognizing that the other person has long been searching, wondering the world for something they can’t find.

It’s also about not getting the life you really want until you let go or surrender;
to remember the dreams of your life and keep in pursuit of them even when you feel the life you have been trying to build is burning all around you as you cook in the cinders of existence.
The song came in a flash one night after dinner and a night out .
One of those moments where the muse is detached enough to let something happen that is simple yet powerful.
The recorded version of the song that made the album is the version I recorded that very night
Usually those versions are just rough demos that get shaped over time, but not in this case.
That rough version had the authenticity of the moment which refused to be altered
The emotion in the voice is real and the magic of the moment was captured . It’s like a gift when that happens. And I never considered changing it
The video for Cinders was shot in Athens, Greece.
The idea was direct to camera stark one shot leaning on the emotion of the song
Socs asked if I could shed a tear at the end. I joked back that I haven’t had a real emotion since 1986, not expecting to cry at all.
The playback of the first take started and I put myself right into the emotion of where I was when I wrote it. I imagined directly who it was for and to my surprise the floods came
A cosmic release. We did other takes. And only time will tell if we release the watershed version or not. But it was a trip watching it back.
