Potassium Ferrocyanide (nearly transparent yellow solution in the beaker) reacts with a dilute yellow Iron(III)Chloride solution to form the intensively blue colored Prussian Blue.

The color derives from a strong Intervalent Charge-Transfer transition. As d-d-Transitions are forbidden by Quantum Mechanics most complexes appear to be only weakly colored. Charge-Transfer are usually allowed transitions rendering them extremly intense in color.
