A mixture of Ammoniumthiocyante in HCl (conc.) is prepared.
Of course as we stir it with an iron containing spatula the Thiocyanates might form a red product as well. We do this quite often and usually nothing happens. Also we tried Thiocyanate in different acids and it always turns slightly red. This might be due to a bad quality or it is a common side-reaction ? This is why the solution looks a bit reddish at the beginning of the video. The white solid on the bottom is the undissolved Thiocyanate.
To this a bit of Sodiumnitrite is added. It turns dark red and produces a lot of NOx-gases.
According to literature this compound is Nitrosylthiocyanate. The gas reaction might also be the formation of Nitrous Acid which decomposes and Nitrosylchloride which forms if Nitrite is added to conc. HCl.

The Titanium is oxidized to Ti(IV) where it forms under acidic conditions the Titanyl (Ti-O) bond. This can be reacted with H2O2 to exchange it for a peroxo-ligand (Ti-(O2)).
